“Lily Chanu’s father had passed away when she was just around 11-12 years old and studying in class — VI. That time was the most difficult phase of our lives. I have three children, Lily being the youngest one. Her eldest brother was too young. I had to sell ‘paan’ here and there and from house to house to support my family and to support my daughter’s love of the game — archery. I have no shame in doing that. Because i wanted my daughter to bring laurels to Manipur and India. Now, my daughter has achieved many medals at national and international levels, but till date my daughter has not got any job in the state. My daughter loves the game so much and says that she will play as long as she can. I always encourage my daughter to bring laurels to the country and work hard. She has been into the game for around 12-13 years. We face a lot of financial problems. If the state government provides her a job here in home state Manipur, i will be so happy”.
