Soraisam Thabaton and Wahida Rahaman win gold medals in World Police and Fire Games 2017

Soraisam Thabaton and Wahida Rahaman made India proud by winning four gold medals in track and field events at the World Police and Fire Games 2017 in the USA. The CRPF employees from Manipur representing Indian Police in the Games won 4 gold and 3 silver medals in athletic events.

In Women’s – 800 Meters Run, both the Indian runners secured the two top positions winning gold and silver medals. Soraisam Thabaton Chanu  won the 1st position while Wahida Rahaman won the 2nd place.

The CRPE athletes again dominated the Womens 1500 Meters Run when both Thabaton and Wahida won the same positions respectively.

Thabaton wont her third gold medal in the games when she claimed gold medal in Women’s  5000 Meters Run. In this event too, Wahida Rahaman won silver medal.

Wahida could finally change the colour of her medal when she won gold medal in the longer distance race. The three times silver medallist in the games won her first gold medal in Women’s 10K Meters Run. Guan Jhenghuang and Melissa Angert won silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the current games, total number of medals won by Manipuri athletes representing India – 20 medals (13 gold medals, 5 silver and 2 silver medals) has surpassed the previous total of medals – 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals which were won in the last edition of World Police and Fire Games 2015, held at Fairfax County, Virginia, USA.
