Shamjetsabam Sarjubala in quarterfinal; Manoj Kumar and Shiva Thapa out of the Asian Games 2018 boxing

Boxer Shamjetsabam Sarhubala of India beats Ghaforova Madina of Tajikistan to advance to the quarterfinals of women’s boxing in the18th Asian Games 2018 Jakarta – Palembang.

Sarjubala who is known for her quick jabs and footwork proved to be superior against her opponent from Tajikistan. She beat the Tajik boxer 5-0 points in Women’s Fly (51kg) to book her place for the quarterfinal.

The Indian boxer looked tired a bit during the bout but came back strongly to beat her opponent boxer. She is just one win away to assure India of a medal in the Asian Games 2018. She will be up against Chang Yuan of China in the quarterfinal bout which will be played on 29th August, 2018.

In the same category, Kyzaibay Nazym of Kazakhstan also moved to the quarterfinal after beating Razia Bano Aziz of Pakistan. Kyzaibay will next box against Lin Yunting of Chinese Taipei.

India had big upset as Shiva Thapa lost to Shan Jun of China in Men’s Light (60kg) in Round of 16. The three times Asian Boxing Championships and world boxing championships medallist faced two knock downs during the bout.

Earlier, Manoj Kumar went out of the boxing competition after being defeated by Kyrgyzstan’s Abdurakhman Abdurakhamanov in the round of 16 of men’s welterweight (69kg) category. The two-time Commonwealth Games medallist Manoj Kumar beat Wangdy Sangay of Bhutan before losing to Abdurakhamanov by 0-5 points.
