Meiraba wins U 17 single’s title, Manjit and Dingku bag U 19 double’s title in All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament 2017

Young shuttler Meisnam Meiraba Luwang won the boys single’s title in All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament 2017 by Iman Sonowal in straight set with 21-17 and 21-12 points in the final. This is the 2nd title of Meiraba after winning his U – 17 single’s title at the TOSS All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament 2017 which took place from 12th June to 18th June at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.

On his way to to the final, Meiraba defeated Ayush Raj Gupta by 21-11 and 21-17 in 1st round, Anirudh Pandey by 21-7 and 21-11 points in 2nd round and Shath D with 21-17 and 21-13 points in 3rd round. In quarterfinal, Meiraba defeated Sai Charan Koya in 2-1 with 21-15, 18-21 and 21-10 points and Dhruv Rawat by 21-19 and 21-13 points in semifinal.

It may be mentioned that Meiraba is one of the athletes being sponsored by Olympic Gold Quest.

Manipur had another victory in boys double’s event. Duo of Khwairakpam Manjit Singh and Konthoujam Dinkgu Singh clinched boys U 19 double’s title defeating India’s number 2 team of Amrith B and Muanis Mohamad in 2-1 with 21-16, 23-25, 21-13 points. Earlier, the pair from Manipur beat Edwin Joy and Aravind V Suresh with 21-11 and 21-12 points in 1st round, Abishek Bora and Jayrajpeqo with 14-21, 21-5 and 27-25 points in 2nd Round and Kush Chugh and Piyush Kumar with 21-11, 16-21 and 21-18 points. In the semifinal, Manjit and Dingku defeated Vishnuvardhan Goud Sri Krishna with 21-11 and 21-12 points.

The tournament was held at Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy, Bangalore, India from 19-25 June 2017 which was organized by Karnataka Badminton Association under the aegis of Badminton Association of India. The total number of entry of players in the tournament was 1880 from all over India.
