Mary Kom to lead Indian challenge in Ulaanbaatar Cup 2017

Olympic Games bronze medalist and five times world champion MC Mary Kom will lead India’s challenge in international boxing tournament Ulaanbaatar Cup 2017, at Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia. The mother of two Mary Kom will spearhead team of 10 Indian boxers which includes 7 men and 3 women boxers in the tournament which will take place from 20th June to 26th June 2017. She will compete in women’s 51kg.

Olympian and Commonwealth Games silver medalist Laishram Devendro will lead in men’s section. The Services boxer will compete in men’s 52kg category. Also joining in the team is Shyam Kumar Kakara who clinched gold medals at the Thailand International Tournament in 2015 and 2017 editions in Bangkok in men’s 49 kg. The silver medalist of the 68th Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria, Hussam Uddin Mohammed will compete in men’s 56kg category. The 7th Asian Youth Championships 2016 Pavlodar silver medalist Ankush Dahiya, Thailand International Tournament 2017 bronze medalist Rohit Tokas and Duryodhan Singh will box in men’s 56kg, 64kg and 69kg categories respectively.

In women’s section, Priyanka Choudary, Asian Women Boxing Championships in 2010 bronze medalist and silver medalist in 6th Nations Cup 2017 will compete in women’s 60kg. The 9th Junior Women (Youth) Boxing Chmapionship 2016 gold medalist Kalawanti will box in women’s 75kg category.

The Indian contingent comprises of 10 with 5 officials. Lalit Prasad and Anurag Verma will be the men’s team coaches while Mandakini Chanu and Chhote Lal Yadav are women’s team coaches. Aayush Yekhande is the team’s physio.

Men’s team: Shyam Kumar Kakara (49kg), Devendro Singh Laishram (52kg), Hussam Uddin Mohammed (56kg), Ankush Dahiya (60kg), Rohit Tokas (64kg), Duryodhan Singh Negi (69kg), Jaideep (75kg).

Women’s Team: Chungnejang Mery Kom Hmangte (51kg), Priyanka Choudhary (60kg), Kalawanti (75kg).
