In one of the most entertaining women’s football final matches in Indian women’s football history played between Manipur and Railways, Railways beat Manipur by 7-6 (4-3) in penalty shoot-out. Railways won first ever title of senior women’s national football championship title. As expected the match was played with keen competition.
In the final match played at Jabalpur, Manipur took the early lead when Bala scored the first goal of the match in the 21st minute. The score was soon equalised when Ashalata, former Manipur team player, scored a goal for Railways in the 22nd minute via penalty kick. Grace Dangmei who has been in good form in the championship netted the second goal to make the scoreline Manipur 2- Raiways 1 in the 41st minute. It was short celebration for Manipur as Sasmita Malik equalised the score 2-2 in the 44th minute. It was a neck to neck competition.
In the second half, both teams could not add quick goals as in the first half. Manipur could not convert into goals despite having some good chances of goals. Captain Bembem who was playing her final competitive football scored a goal in 100th minute to give Manipur lead by 3 goals to 2 goals of Railways. In the dying minutes of the game, Bijeta who also played for Manipur team scored the much needed goal for Railways making the scoreline 3-3 in 115th minute. The score remained 3-3 till the end of added extra time.
Now the most exciting part of the match began with penalty shoot-out. In the penalty shoot-out, Railways beat Manipur by 7-6 (4-3). For Railways, former Manipur team players Yumnam Kamala, Ashalata, Premi scored goals followed by another goal from Supriya in the penalty shoot-out. For Manipur team, Oinam Bembem, Roshni and Pramesori scored goals.
