Manipuri players shine in World Police and Fire Games 2015

Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Thoudam Kalpana of Manipur representing India won gold medal in women’s 52kg judo competition at the World Police and Fire Games 2015 (June 26-July 5), Virginia. Kalpana who is serving as the ASI of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) beat Wu Pei Lin of National Police of Chinese Taipei.

Kalpana also won gold medal in Lusofonia Games 2013-14 (Goa) which was held between January 21 and 27, 2014. She defeated Un Si Man of Macao (China) in the final fight.

In September 2010, she won a gold medal in the Women’s World Cup Judo Championship held in Uzbekistan and won bronze medal in World Judo Grand Prix in Tashkent. She also won gold medal in World Police and Fire Games in 2013.

Leishangthem Kumarjit Meitei of Manipur Police who represented India at the World Police and Fire Games 2015, Virginia, the USA won gold and silver medals for India in wrist wrestling.

With his achievement, five players from Manipur have won 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals.
Mayanglambam Sunder and Chingakham Lata Rani won gold medals in archery and women’s boxing while Laishram Nirupama won bronze medal in women’s judo.
