In a big moment for Manipur badminton, Manipur’s mixed senior team became champion in the North East Zone Inter State Badminton Championship 2017 that was held at Aizawl after a gap of 20 long years. In final Manipur beat Mizoram by 3-1 and before beating strong Assam by 3-2. The win is a big moment as Manipur had won the tile in 1997 and had to wait for 20 years to bag the title once again.
Besides the championship title in Mixed Senior Team , Manipur also achieved other important titles. Manipur achieved 3 individual winners out five finals in the championship.
M Meiraba Beat Samuel Lalnunmawia of Mizoram by 2-0 and Maheshwari Devi beat Lalrinzuali of Mizoram by 2-0 to clinch single men’s and women’s titles. Manipur won runner up in Junior U-19 Mixed Team event. Man’s double runner-up title went to K Dingku and Kh Manjit who lost to Lalmuanawma and Lalduhawma by 0-2 in the final. Women’s double title went to Maheshwari Devi and N Purnima who beat F Vanlalhriatpuii and Lalrinzuali of Mizoram by 2-0 (21/16,21/15). In boys’ single final Bidiyasagar Salam of Manipur beat Orijit Chaliha of Assam by 1-2 (22-20, 19/21, 21/15). In U19 boys’ double final, L Unilkumar and Bidiyasagar Salam won runner – up after losing to Pragyanijyoti Gogoi and Rajsekhar Das of Assam by 2-1 (21/15:17/21:29/27) .
In U-19 girls’ double final, K Priya Devi and N Purnima of Manipur beat Selina and Sunandita of Sikkim by 2-0 (21/3,21/10). Manipur shuttlers also won U-19 mixed double title. In the final, L Unilkumar and N Punrima Devi beat Yumlam Mopi and Biki of Arunchal Pradesh by 2-0 (21/8,21/9). N Angita Devi won 3rd place in U-19 girls’ single final.
