Manipur Police Sports Club (A) lifts the champion’s trophy of the 5th 57 Mountain Division Polo Tournament 2014

Manipur Police Sports Club (A) beat the defending champion Khurai Polo Club by 11-4 goals to become the champion of the 5th 57 Mountain Division Polo Tournament 2014. The match ended in a thrilling way.

In the final match played at Mapal Kangjeibung, Imphal,  S. Bimol Singh of Manipur Police scored the first goal of the play in the 1st chukker. However, P. Ojit of the Khurai Polo Club scored an equaliser in the 3.58th minute and scored another goal in the 7.06th minute for a 2-1 lead in the first chukker.

In the second chukker, S. Bimol scored his team’s second goal in the 6.39th minute.

P. Ojit scored 3rd goal for his club in the 7.07th minute. Again, the scored was levelled when Th. Ranjit of MPSC-A hit a goal. S. Bimol  and Th. Ranjit further scored two more goals for the police team.

In 3rd chukker, L. Thomson of Khurai polo team scored the 3rd goal of the match which was also the last goal of the team. Now the score card was MPSC-A was leading by 5 goals to 3 goals of Khurai Polo Club.

The 4th and last chukker was completely dominated by the police team. Maximum goals were scored in the 4th chukker. In this last chukker, S. Bimol and S. Abungcha accelerated their pace and scored 2 goals each. Scores were further increased for the MPSC-A by M. Jawan and Th. Ranjit by  hitting 1 goal each. 6 goals were scored by the Manipur police team in the last chukker.

Manipur Police Sports Club – A received Rs 30,000 with the winning trophy while Khurai Polo Club received Rs 20,000 with the runners up trophy. Earlier, in the first semi-final match, MPSC-A defeated MPSC-B by a margin of 5-4 goals while in the second semi-final match Khurai Polo Club beat Ibudhou Thangjing Polo Club 6-4 to reach to the final. Altogether, 11 polo team / clubs of  Manipur competed in the tournament , the teams were MPSC-A, MPSC-B, MPSC-C, Khurai Polo Club, Meiraba Polo Club, Chingkheihunba Polo Club, Ibudhou Thangjing Polo Club, Tekcham Polo Club,  Eastern Student Club, X Fitness Polo Club and Nambul Mapal Polo Club.

The final match of the tournament was graced by Major General Bipin Rawat, GOC, 3 Corp; Major General PM Bali, GOC 57 Mountain Division; Major General Rajiv Chopra, IGAR (S) and Dr Kh Chourjit, President of Manipur Pony Society and Senior VP, MHRPA as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
