Indian archers shine in World Police and Fire Games 2017 with superlative performances by Gurumayum Robert and S Basanta

Indian archers gave a fine performance in the ongoing World Police and Fire Games 2017 in the USA winning at least 6 gold medals. Indian men and women archers won other medals as well in different events of archery in the games.

In the games, Gurumayum Robert displayed superlative performance and won three gold medals for India.  Robert won gold medals in Men’s – 18+ Field (28 Target) Barebow Compound and Men’s  18+ Target 900 Round  Barebow Compound events in which fellow Anil Kumar won silver medals. He went on to win another gold medal in Men’s  18+ 3D Round  Barebow Compound event as well while Anil Kumar won the second position.

Another Indian archer S Basanta from Manipur won three medals in the games. He won 2 gold and 1 silver medals.

In women’s competitions, Thounaojam Ishembi also bagged 3 medals for India. Daughter of Th Babuyaima and Keinatombi from Langmeidong Maning Leikai, Ishembi won gold medal in Womens 18+  Target 900 Round  Barebow Compound event. She also won 2 bronze medals in Women’s 18+  Field (28 Target) – Barebow Compound and Womens 18+ – 3D Round events.

So far, Manipur players representing Indian Police have won 13 gold medals in this games. The medals came in Archery, Boxing, Judo and Track and Field events.
