India wins six medals in 1st BRICS Games 2017


After fine performances in wushu by Gyandash Mayanglambam, Khaidem Bidyashwori Chanu and Leimapokpam Sanatombi Chanu in the first ever held BRICS Games 2017, Guangzhou in China, wushu players of India three more medals including a gold.

India’s gold medal was won by Anjul Namdev. He won the medal in men’s Changquan, Jianshu & Qiangshu all-round event. India further added a silver medal in women’s Changquan, Daoshu & Gunshu all-round event. Ngangom Toshibala won the medal. Sajan Lama also won a bronze medal in men’s Nanquan, Nandao & Nangun all-round event. .

Earlier, Gyandash Mayanglambam won the first gold medal for India in men’s Taijiquan event, Khaidem Bidyashwori Chanu won silver medal in women’s Taijiquan and Leimapokpam Sanatombi Chanu got bronze medal in women’s Taijijian. India has collected 6 medals – 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals in the Games.

It may be mentioned that Mr. Bhupender Singh Bajwa (President, Wushu Association of India) is the Chief de mission of the India contingent. Mr. Suhel Ahmed (General Secretary), was the Team leader of Indian wushu team while Mr. Sachidananda Mayanglambam was the coach of the Indian wushu team.

The BRICS Games 2017 features five BRICS member countries — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, with 10 events up for grabs in three sports — men’s basketball, women’s volleyball and wushu for men and women.
