Eastern Sporting Union (ESU) of Manipur played their 5th and the last of their league matches at the ongoing IWL 2017 and beat Alakhpura FC to secure second place in the rankings.
The team got second place despite being level on points with leaders Rising Student’s Club of Odisha but falling prey to goal difference – following their 1-0 win over Alakhpura FC at the Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi today. Yumnam Kamala scored the lone goal of the match in the 2nd minute of the first half. Miss Umapati was once again declared Player of the Match.
In the league matches so far Manipur’s renown club beat the Jeppiaar Insitute of Technology FC by 7-1 in the first encounter. However, the club lost to Rising Student’s Club by 2-1 after leading the score via Gurumayum Radharani in the 8th minute of the first half which was equalised by Sashmita Malik in 52nd minute and finally sealed the match by Loitongbam Ashalata of the Rising Student’s Club in the 83rd minute. ESU came back in its third league match where it beat FC Pune City by 3-1. The club kept their momentum and thrashed Aizawl FC 3-0 to book their place in the semi final round.
In the semi final matches, Rising Student’s Club will play against Pune City in the first match at 11.00am, while Eastern Sporting Union will clash against Alakhpura FC in the second match at 3.00pm. The matches will play on the same day of February 11, 2017.
