Ashem Tondonba of India won gold medal in muay boran in 63kg at the World Martial Arts Council’s 1st World Open Martial Arts Games 2015 (March 12-22), Hua Mak Indoor stadium, Bangkok, Thailand.
This is to be noted that he is the first ever Indian to win a gold medal with first round TKO in 30 seconds against Azlaguen Dalil of France.
In this Games, muay boran, muay thai, taekwondo, kick boxing, karate, kyokashinkai, kung fu, jujitsu, pancek silat, jeet kune do and Arab boxing are the disciplines in which martial artists from Manipur have won large number of medals.
In jeet kune do,Chungkham Ningthem a gold medal in men’s below 52kg event. Being a keen lover of martial arts, the martial artist from Manipur touched many martial arts. He has brought laurels to both Manipur and India in the past many times. He won gold medal in 1st North East Jeet Kune Do Championship, gold medal in 2nd North East Jeet Kune Do Championship, gold medal in Inter SAI Taekwondo Championship, bronze medal in 1st East Zone Taekwondo Championship, bronze medal in National Karate Championship, gold medal in 6th National Open Taekwondo Championship, gold medal in 24th National Jeet Kune Do Championship and gold medal in 25th National Jeet Kune Do Championship. At the international levels, he won gold medal in 7th International Karate Championship and silver medal in 2nd International Taekwondo Championship and now won gold medal in Jeet Kune Do in World Martial Arts Games 2015, Thailand.
Jeet kune do players Sorokhaibam Kananbala (women’s below 45kg), Laishram Geetanjali (women’s 60-65kg) and Thaovei V Soto (men’s 65-70kg) also won gold medals. So far, seven gold medals were won in total as Warepam Rojita won two gold medals in kick boxing.
